Touch Racing App

Touch Racing Nitro is a great racing game, though it takes some getting used to thanks to the unique controls. Instead of the virtual directional pad popular in most iPhone games you lead a race car on a virtual leash controlled by your finger.

The control system is a break from the many racing games that have the user steer the car by tilting the iPhone as if it is a steering wheel. Because the controls take a bit of getting used to, it is highly recommended that you play through the Touch Racing Nitro tutorial to get a feel for them (even the app’s home page includes the phrase “Warning! Extremely challenging” in the title).

During gameplay the race car follows your finger around the track. The race car will be sped up or slowed down based on how far your finger is from the car. Making turns or sudden speed shifts in Touch Racing Nitro can particularly take some getting used to.

Once you have the hang of things, Touch Racing Nitro is a pretty good experience. There are several different models of cars and tracks that can be unlocked by compiling victories.

Probably the trickiest piece of finger work when driving is the use of the Nitro boosts. At the bottom right of the screen are several icons that, once tapped, shoot a burst of nitro into your car. This speeds you along the track at a much faster rate. The trick here is doing this while also maintaining one finger on the screen to steer the car. Accomplishing this can be quite the feat. Even with lots of practice, it still is an awkward move.

Touch Racing Nitro is connected to the OpenFeint gaming network, which is available on several App Store games. OpenFeint is currently the king of social gaming on the iPhone, so if you’re an Xbox Live or PlayStation Network junkie this will feel right at home.

The good graphics and responsive gameplay make Touch Racing Nitro an intriguing option for racing fans. If the tricky controls don’t present a barrier, this may be another good way to kill time gaming with an iPhone.

One  man’s unfortunate loss has become our benefit.  The new iPhone 4G is revealed!!! The iPhone shown above was found in a bar in northern California disguised as a 3GS.  The guys over at Gizmodo.com disassembled and dissected the coveted treasure and discovered what they think is Apple’s new iPhone 4G, not scheduled to make its debut until this summer.

Though Apple may adjust or tinker with the final product,  this new design is visibly compelling.  From the streamlined exterior to the front- facing camera and high resolution picture,  Apple continues to surprise, impress and reinvent itself as only Apple can  do.

Here is a  list of the new additions and  changes  that were found :

- a camera flash has been added

- a front- facing video chat camera

- an improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)

-what appears to be a new display with higher resolution when compared to the 3GS

- Micro- SIM instead of a standard SIM

-Split buttons for volume

-power, mute and volume buttons are metallic

-What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack

-The back is  made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to go through.

-an aluminum border lining the outside of the phone

- screen appears a little smaller than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)

-3 grams heavier

-16% Larger battery

-interior components are shrunken and reduced to make room for the larger battery

Since the iPhone 4G was found, Gizmodo,  Apple has not confirmed that this is the new iPhone 4G.  As any good skeptic would do, the Gizmodo guys did a little fact checking, comparing, contrasting and came up with the following deductions:

-It was reported lost by John Gruber, associated to Apple

-according to the person who found the phone, it was running on OS 4.0, prior to 4.0 being announced by Apple.

-when connected  to the computer, it recognizes the device as an iPhone.

-the fact it uses a micro-SIM indicates the iPhone is a next generation iPhone .

-When opened up,  every part was strategically placed and conformed to that case, deducing it was made for that case and not a 3GS transplant, especially since the battery size is different and the iPhone is thinner.  3G or 3GS parts would not fit this phone’s specs.

AND the clencher……..

-when opened up, the components and parts were labeled Apple.

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck……it must be the new 4G iPhone.

No one will actually know until Apple releases its new iPhone 4G this summer, but just remember you saw it at iPhoneiCandi.

Apple’s Numbers

April 22nd, 2010 denimdragon No comments

Apple’s just released their previous quarters’ numbers for the iPhone and they did not disappoint.  8.75 million iPhones were sold last quarter, with a revenue of 13.5billion, up from 9.1 billion the previous year and a profit of  3.1 billion, up from 1.6 from last year.  Apple execs said it was the best non-holiday quarter to date.

It seems the international market played a major role in those numbers.  Sales in Asia rose 474% , 183% in Japan and 133% in Europe .  The iPhone phenomenon is spreading globally and rapidly.   “The iPhone is catching fire internationally,”  analyst Piper Jaffray of Gene Muster states, ” as one person gets it, they get two other people to buy it.  It’s a domino effect.”

The numbers don’t include iPad sales as Apple’s last quarter ended March 27 and the iPad went on sale April 3rd.  Though Apple did state it has sold 500,000 iPads thus far.  Mac computer sales are up too, with 2.9 million units sold last quarter, up 33% from the previous year.  Only iPod sales were down slightly, 10.9 million sold, down from 11 million the previous quarter.

Apple officials say a major upgrade to the iPhone’s operating system will be revealed this summer.  No specifics were divulged.  The second version of the iPad goes on sale at the end of April and both units being available overseas in May.  The second versions’ features include 3G cellular access for internet, in addition to Wi-Fi.

Tim Cook, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer it keeps customers interested by, “constant production innovation, new software, new distribution points and geographic expansion and great marketing.”  Numbers show customers don’t mind paying the 30% premium for Apple products and better quality.
